Forgive me if, with either glee or trepidation, you clicked on this thinking I kicked my husband to the curb. I wouldn't do that. This morning I got an e-mail from him about a particular scheduling issue that read, "I can accomodate anything you want to do." That makes him a keeper...even though he spelled "accommodate" wrong.
A few days ago, I grouched (not sure that's appropriate as a verb, but I think I like it!) about the ubiquitous Andy Rooney e-mail and in the days since I have not received ONE SINGLE E-MAIL forwarding this rot. I am thinking that is is an indication that my blog is an effective means of changing the world!!!
In light of this realization, I want to humbly suggest that all of the smart, funny, creative, unique women out there who are writing blogs that keep me coming back for more eradicate the word "hubby" from their vocabularies...unless, of course, they are referring to that fine Ben & Jerry's flavor that includes the blissful coalescence of chocolate covered peanut butter-filled pretzels, vanilla ice cream, fudge and peanut butter.
Ladies...please. Many of you make me giddy with your mastery of the language and your keen view on your life and the world around you. Please refer to your husband by his name. I know that you use pseudonyms for your kids because you are worried about online pedophiles or something. But trust me, no one wants to steal your husband. As a matter of fact after you have blogged about his snoring, his flatulence and his inability to slam dunk an athletic sock into a 24" round laundry basket, referring to him by name might just be considered a public service to any women out there who might be tempted.
If that doesn't work for you, how about saying, "my husband." Husband only has TWO MORE LETTERS than Hubby. And it sounds like you are talking about an actual person and not a candy bar or a security blanket.
This issue was mentioned in a guest-post Thursday Thirteen from a few months ago along with several other good-natured though slightly derogatory jibes at certain bloggers. This is the ONLY place you will find the word "hubby" on my blog prior to today's post.
So, hoping that this post can have the desired Andy Rooney effect, I would like to declare a blog moratorium (yup...you know it...a blogatorium) on the use of the word "hubby" in any non-Ben & Jerry's context. Who's with me???
Di
The word "hubby" used by a blogger makes me think that person looks like Farmer Hogget's wife, and I'm sure most of them don't.

Is DH acceptable? Because that "D" can stand for a variety of adjectives without making me appear to be a total bitch! (Dear, Damn, Dumb, Dreaded)

Oh please oh yes. I can't tell you how much THAT IS NOT A WORD! And it's people who call their husband 'hubby' that also call them 'shnoogle-plum.' *face-punch!*

Oh yes, you can count me in on this anti-hubby campaign. To me, it sounds so...blech. That's the only way I can describe it. I used to call mine the Mr, but have since taken to just calling him Rob. I like it much better.

Oh yes, hubby, hubs, hubster.... and all of those have GOT to go. I do refer to mine at times as "my husband" because some people don't know who I'm talking about when I just say "Kevin" and that's followed up by "who?" To which I have to explain and well... you get the point. I hate that I use the term "my husband" anyway because it makes me feel like one of THOSE. But, I will never call him hubby, hubs, hubster or dear husband. Hate it!

Hee. I never use that word, either. In fact, I don't even like the phrase "my husband," preferring instead the phrase "the husband." Weird, huh?

I call mine " Little Sug" Son, the taller of the two is " Big Sug" Collectively they are "the Sugs" or "Sugs squared". Just as goofy but not as common. Its a take off on a past Di's blog about things Southern here in Fuquay Varina.
