Sometimes another blogger's book review just stops me, grabs me by the hair, drags me to the Quail Ridge Books website and forces me to order a book. Apathy Lounge's review of Dark at the Roots by Sarah Thyre was just such a review.

You must know I could not resist clicking on that link! She is a clever writer (the blogger, that is) but my opinion of memoirs remains the same. When I read that someone has recalled amazing details of their childhood, it makes me cringe. Like Wall's "recall", verbatim, of conversations that occurred when she was . AS IF!!!!!
I think functional is the new dysfunctional. Like 60 is the new 50. I actually read a NYTimes magazine piece to this effect many years ago. The theory being...if 80% of our population is dysfunctional, doesn't that make dysfunctional folks the norm? And functional people unusual? Food for thought.
