I LOVE LAURIE NOTARO. Review one of her books (: she's the only one i know of in your whole blog.

My book group was split, 50/50. As you know, I didn't finish it because I thought Ms. Gilbert was way too whiny for me. We did like the section on Italy. All of us talked about taking that kind of journey, and how nice it would be to have the money, time and resources to do so.

So, put me in the "flinging-it-across-the-room" camp. I'm interested in other points of view however...like, is there another author who has written a better book about self-discovery? Besides the incomparable Ann Lamott?

JoAnn

Include me in the "throw it across the room" camp, except that I restrained myself since it was a library book. I hate memoirs and don't know why I even started this one. Whiny and self indulgent is putting it mildly.

Penelope Anne - The Mama Bear

This is on my TBR list, and I am still planning to give it a try. Never know. Thanks for a honest review.

The title alone is enough to put me off. What's more, I saw it at Wal-mart on the shelf they reserve for "inspirational" books. That ensures that I will never read it.

What I've Been Reading Lately

  • This was touted by Bookmarks magazine (a magazine I HIGHLY recommend) as the one book to read if you want to read one book about Vince Lombardi. It's jam-packed with football details...which I love!

  • Another brilliant book by the author of The Tipping Point.

  • Manchild in the Promised Land lost me about 2/3 of the way through. So I'm on to this recommendation from JoAnn. I may return to Manchild, but I think I need a quick read right now.

  • I'm very excited to read this book recommended by Debbie Ellman and enthusiastically confirmed by my BF Amy!

  • This recommendation came from...well, I saw a woman so immersed (pun intended) in it that she was reading it IN the pool at a hotel I was staying at. This was later confirmed by a bookseller at an independent bookstore (of course) in Sarasota.
