We are back on track building our dream house...well, actually it's our runner-up dream house. The first plan we selected was someone else's dream home...and will be again because I'm selling the plans on craigslist. So, keeping the dream metaphor alive...we went back to sleep and had a different dream, something that was a little smaller and will not be overwhelming after the kids head off to college.
I am playing General Contractor although we have a builder who is managing the construction, hiring the subs, etc. What do I know about being a General Contractor? Well, I know that they use Nextel phones. I know that my husband is going to get me a hard hat with daisies on it. I know that the proper spelling is "moulding" even though "molding" is acceptable. Confident in my vast information void, I got on Amazon (sorry BookSense...in this case it was important to see customer reviews and a wider variety of books) and started narrowing down the choices.
Here is how my selection process went:
This one has a smart looking couple on the cover. They looked like they learned TONS from reading this book.
When I clicked on this to put it in my cart to be one of my finalists, a warning popped up that there was only one copy remaining in stock so I'd better buy soon!!! Always one to be swayed by the warning of scarcity, I purchased it immediately. Oh...and also, I like the shape of the windows on the cover.
I am ready, willing and able to admit my level of idiocy. Reading a book that starts with the premise that I am an idiot is just fine with me. And the happy couple on the cover...do they look like idiots??? Hell, no! They were cured of their idiocy by this very book.
I promise that I will not subject you to every detail of my selection process as I choose items for the house...but then again, I respect your opinion so much that I just might.
Please post comments or send me e-mails with any unsolicited advice (oh, I guess I am officially soliciting the advice, so scratch that adjective).
