Wow! If you do a contest on your blog and it makes the big time and gets on this contest roundup blog, you sure get a lot of traffic. I'm just glad the winner was a reader...I would hate for it to go to someone who just likes to enter contests to see what they can win...and then they would get this non-fiction book about air and the atmosphere and it would end up holding down their scrapbooking cutouts or something.
A little while back, I did a review of An Ocean of Air: Why the Wind Blows and Other Mysteries of the Atmosphere by Gabrielle Walker. To see my review, click here. The book had originally been sent to me by a publisher and somehow I ended up receiving another copy from the same publisher. So I decided (with their blessing) that a contest would be a great way to give away the book.
I used a random number generator on Excel (because I am SUCH an Excel geek!) and the winner ended up to be Jessica in Milwaukee. Now, I am in the mild climate of North Carolina and absolutely freezing my butt off...yesterday was a two fleece cover-up day...so I can only imagine how it is up Jessica's way. So I'm glad I will be giving her something interesting to read while she is snuggled up by the first trying to keep the cold and snow away from the door. (By the way Jessica, given your climate, a great book I would recommend is The Children's Blizzard by David Laskin.)
Besides sitting in the cold by her door waiting for me to mail the book, Jessica is reading a Nicholas Sparks book and Your Pregnancy Week by Week because she is pregnant and due in February. It's her first child, so I'm pretty sure if she doesn't get this book finished before he/she is born, it's going to be a while before she gets to it. I only say that because I don't think I read anything longer than an article in an outdated People magazine for the first six months after my child was born.
Jessica doesn't have a blog...yet. But I'm sure once she discovers all those Mommy-blogs out there and realizes she can save herself many phone calls from well-meaning friends and relatives by just posting pictures and updates on the baby on her blog, she'll be a Mommy-blogger too. Now is a good time to visit The Cheaty Monkey. Haley-O just had her second baby, but she will make you laugh and show you that there is life after pregnancy...not an organized, controlled life, but a life nonetheless.
So I am off to the UPS store today during my slew of errands (including fasting bloodwork...like I've been up since 5:45 and they aren't going to draw my blood until 9!!! I mean I'm practically on lunch by then!) so look for it soon, Jessica.
Thanks to all who participated!
