Thirteen New Year's Resolutions
I had what I thought was a great Thursday Thirteen half-written in my head when I realized that some people don't even get on their computers during the holidays (yeah, bizarre, I know), so I decided I would save it for another time. So, here I am, giving in to what I assume will be major blog peer pressure (blogsure?) and writing about the expected topic...with my promise that none of the thirteen items will concern cats, Bible verses or toddlers' adorable utterances.
1. 5 a Day - really and truly. I am not making a resolution to lose weight because I'm comfortable where I am, but I would like to eat healthier, including 5 fruits and veggies a day. Besides, my husband is in the produce biz, so the more we all do this, the better his business will be!
2. Cook Four Real Dinners per Week - it's actually harder than it sounds when you eat out occasionally, slack off occasionally, etc. I want it to be attainable. And, for the record, the following do not qualify as "Real Meals": Mac & Cheese, Frosted Flakes, Ramen Noodles or "You're on your own, get whatever you want." When the kids were babies I got in the habit of not cooking when Hurley was traveling and that's not working so much now that they are 11 and 13.
3. Spend Less Money on Eating Out/Ordering In - OMG, how am I possibly going to come up with 10 more resolutions? They all seem to be food-related. I guess since this is a book blog I should come up with something book-related.
4. Start Up the Book Group - we have a great core group of interested and interesting women and we'll start up in January.
5. Get My Fat A** on the Spinning Bike - so Andrea will stop hounding me. Also because I like it and it's good for me.
6. Start doing Yoga - since I'm very slightly tightly wound, I think this will help me to be more relaxed, less irritable and generally more pleasant to be around.
7. Just Say No - to something, anything...but don't overcommit.
8. Be More Patient - I have been making this resolution for 20 years with the best of intentions, but it just doesn't stick. Maybe the yoga will help.
9. See all the Best Picture Nominees before the Oscars
10. Take Another Weekend Excursion with Amy - this time to a city that is more accessible than Savannah.
11. Read the Newspaper - I used to do this daily without fail, but lately I'm more likely to fire up the computer and forget all about reading the day's news.
12. Make Dates with my Husband - make time for lunch or dinner alone together at least a couple of times a month...we always end up having great conversations that somehow don't happen at home amidst the daily chaos.
13. Forgive Myself for Not Keeping All My Resolutions
