Tuesday, December 26, the day that has been glistening with hope for the last several weeks. The day after, when whatever I've forgotten to do will have been forgotten, when Sarah McLachlan will stop yodeling Christmas carols at Starbucks (I hope), when my 13-year old daughter will jet off to NYC with her best friend for 9 days, when my 11-year old son's days will be filled with spontaneous play and friends, when my time will be my own.
Reality...good news first...there are antibiotics (see my blog about The Demon Under the Microscope)...the bad news, 13-year old has strep and won't be leaving for NYC until tomorrow. And the even worse news is that our bad news ruined the day for my friend Nancy whose guest my daughter was to be for the trip to NYC. Sorry, because I know that Haley and Paige occasionally read my blog, but Nancy and I were looking at our 9 days of someone else entertaining our adolescent progeny as a special little Christmas/Hanukkah present just for the Moms. But since I am an eternal optimist, the more good news is that Haley is mostly crashed in bed nursing her illness and barring any unforeseen circumstances, the girls will be off to NYC tomorrow.
So what to do with this day after The Day? I am not one to brave the "Return and Spend Gift Cards" crowds. I really should stay home with my sick daughter. And I don't really want to get out of my jammies (which for the record I HAVE changed since I started wearing the new P.J.'s, the ones Mom and Dad gave me on December 22). So I am torn between:
1. Doing laundry and straightening up the house (ha!).
2. Watching season 2 of Grey's Anatomy (which I've already seen) with my sick daughter...the Patrick Dempsey factor making that a mildly attractive option.
3. Reading Little Children, a surprise from my Secret Santa who is apparently the ONLY one who looked at my Amazon wish list and the only book that has managed to hold my interest in the last two weeks (thank goodness for Entertainment Weekly, Bookmarks Magazine, the DVD's of Entourage and reruns of Scrubs that I have set my DVR to record).
4. Blog-surfing to find new and fascinating blogs to read (if you are lurking and know of any, PLEASE comment or e-mail me with suggestions).
Stay tuned...I'm sure I'll blog tomorrow with either a book review of Little Children or a fascinating account of my delightful day!
