I have run across this Thursday Thirteen thing around the blogosphere, so I thought I would try it...although I haven't had time to actually sign up or anything. "I'll think about that tomorrow". I figure it takes the pressure off to post about books or reading at least on Thursday. Let me know what you think...give me ideas for other Thursday Thirteens you would like to see in the future.

Since everyone knows I moved to Boca kicking and screaming, pulled from the comfortable arms of my “girls” in Fuquay-Varina, NC (that’s FYOO-KWAY) and yes it’s a real place and yes it really is spelled that way, you know that this is a difficult for me to do. But, being the glass half fully kinda gal I am, after 16 months I have found some things I really do love…in no particular order except the order in which they occur to me. 1. Starbucks on the corner of Palmetto & Powerline after drop-off at Del Prado. Drop off my son, head to Starbucks, have coffee with Laura and/or any other Del Prado Moms. 2. Salon Oasis. I love going in there. It makes me feel beautiful and appreciated. The people who work there are funky and nice and have a unique gift for customer service. Julie does my hair, Robert does my highlights and Mindy does my toes. 3. Carole’s Kitchen. Best Soup Ever! Just remember they only have the Lobster Bisque (my favorite) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. But according to me and anyone with whom I’ve ever eaten at Carole’s, all the soups are great. After lunch I usually get a quart of soup to take home for dinner. Hurley loves the Matzoh Ball soup. 4. Everything I need within a 5-mile radius. Everything. Since I’m not a big mall person, it’s at least nice that it is so close when I do have to go. In NC, the mall was at least a 20 minute drive. 5. The Weather. This is the time of year that we love the weather here. Every day is warm but usually with a lovely breeze. You can choose between shorts or jeans, flip flops or clogs a t-shirt or a long-sleeve shirt. 6. My backyard. Let me preface this by saying that I had nothing to do with my backyard…we bought the house BECAUSE of the backyard...so the backyard kudos go to Gwen who lived here before. I love the waterfall and the soothing sounds it makes. I love this cascade of orchids. I love this single stunning orchid that is so beautiful that it could serve as the cover of a new edition of The Orchid Thief (an excellent book whether you care about Orchids or not...and the movie was quite good too). And this bromeliad in the adorable parrot holder. 7. Laura. Because it always fun to have a new best friend and because last Thursday night we had way more fun than two married women should have on a Thursday night! And Stacy who is becoming my new NEW best friend. 8. Cucina Rosano (east side of Jog across from Morikami). Because my old roommate C.J. works at the bar there and always makes me and my friends feel very special...it's always nice to be catered to, appreciated and smiled at by a good-looking man. Also, last Thursday we met the owner who treated us to tiramisu, cappucino and after-dinner liquers. Oh, and the food is great! 9. Hurley's office is 5 minutes away which means we have lunch together occasionally and he doesn't have to top off his day with a 45 minute commute! 10. Sage & Sky. Owned by my friend Stacy, this is a store where you walk in and immediately feel at home. No one is looking snidely at you because you are not a size zero. It's low pressure. They help you pick out clothes that are great for YOU, not what everyone else is wearing. For someone who doesn't LOVE to shop, this is a place I really enjoy. 11. The YMCA. After we got back from NC at the end of the summer it was time to get an exercise program going, so we joined the Y. They just did a huge renovation making it as good as or better than a snooty health club that would cost twice as much! Plus Andrea is a great spin instructor even if she is stealing my best friend away from me! :) 13. Estancia. On our second try, with the help of my friend Virginia, we found a GREAT neighborhood that was a great fit for our family. The kids ride the bus. There are plenty of kids and friendly neighbors around. It is a very comfortable place to be. Links to other Thursday Thirteens! 1. OOh, I'm so envious of Starbucks every morning with a friend! It sounds like you have a really great life there. I know I love to visit Florida; we go to Naples every winter for a week, and I've been to the Keys once for a week. I'd take both of those places over Orlando any day. My aunt lives in Boca Raton, it would be a stitch if you knew her!

I like the Thursday Thirteen.
Next time, I say you do the thirteen reasons you love your daughter (which would be perfect, BTW, seeing as I'm thirteen)
Or something like the thirteen favorite things to buy for your daughter.
Something like that.

Ok, I can't stop laughing at Haley saying you should do the next one on 13 ways you love your daughter!!! THEN, I read...better yet...thirteen things to buy your daughter! I am laughing at 6:30 am. Haley sweetie, you crack Virginia up! Ok, I love your thirteen loves of Boca...very nice. After your thoughts of how exactly "what" you would like here in Boca, you have come a long way with coming up with 13...see? I told you, you would start to love it! I love your blog! Talk to you soon...hmmmm Caroles Kitchen sounds like a winner, call Virginia :)

Did Virginia notice the time of day on Haley's comment? Yes, my daughter was up commenting on my blog at 12:36 a.m. on a school night. I think going to sleep at a reasonable hour falls in my "choose your battles" category...so many more important things to bug her about!

Hi, just surfing the 13ers... I did my first one today! Happy reading -- I'm a book lover too, just one with no time to read! My baby's 2, you see. Nice to "meet" you.

5. 13 people who changed my life
6. 13 catalogs i can live without
7. 13 tv shows i'll never forget
8. 13 reasons i love my dog and will never get a cat
9. 13 great things about being in my 40s (or conversely, 13 reasons i hated being in my 20s)
10. 13 places i want to visit before i die
12. 13 things i'd change in the world if i had the power to change anything
13. 13 famous people (dead or living) ("famous" is whatever meets your definition of such) I'd like to have to a dinner party
Posted by: amy | October 26, 2006 at 12:59 PM
Amy - love your 13 ideas! Should keep me going through the end of the year. But I'm pretty sure that next week's is going to be "13 Dumb Things that our Husbands Called us about when we were in Savannah". Do you think I'll get in trouble if I post more than 13? I mean Hurley can do 13 in a single day.
As for the 13 people at the dinner party
...do I automatically get a house and a dining room that would accommodate so many as well as a chef. Or should the chef be one of my 13.
